No. The AI model (U²-Net-p, Apache-2.0 licence) runs on your device in the browser. The first time you use the tool, your browser downloads the model (about 4.6 MB) from this site.
How long does it take?
Usually a few seconds per photo. It runs on your device’s processor, so older phones may take longer.
Does it work for any subject?
It works best when the subject clearly stands out from the background, such as products, people and pets. The model is designed to be small and fast, so fine hair, thin details and transparent objects can be imperfect; check the preview before using it.
